No Tickets, No Problem: The Deadly Reality of Rooftop Train Travel in Bangladesh.

Around the world.

The news as it trends.

In Bangladesh, especially during peak travel seasons like Eid, thousands of people resort to riding on the rooftops of overcrowded trains.

Some do it to avoid ticket costs, while others simply have no space inside. Though common, this practice is both illegal and extremely dangerous.

Over the years, there have been multiple tragic incidents involving rooftop passengers.

Some have been electrocuted by overhead power lines, while others have fallen off and been crushed beneath the train.

In one heartbreaking case, five young passengers lost their lives after falling from the roof and being run over.

Others have suffered serious injuries from hanging cable wires or losing balance on fast-moving trains.

Despite the risks, the practice continues, driven by poverty, desperation, and a lack of infrastructure.

Authorities have tried to crack down, but enforcement remains inconsistent. As Bangladesh continues to grow, improving public transportation and ensuring safe travel options must become a priority.

Until then, the phrase “No tickets, no problem” remains a chilling reminder of the cost some pay just to get home.
