The news as it trends
With the World Cup on the horizon, frustration is rising among global travelers as a new $250 “Visa Integrity Fee” shakes up U.S. nonimmigrant visa applications.
Introduced under Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” the fee applies to tourists, students, and business visitors—and it’s non-refundable unless applicants comply perfectly with complex immigration rules.
Even then, the reimbursement process remains unclear and bureaucratic.
What’s worse, travelers now face stricter penalties: overstaying even by a day may result in deportation and a lifetime visa ban under Trump-era enforcement.
Critics say the U.S. is fast becoming one of the world’s most difficult countries to enter, especially compared to nations with friendlier visa systems.
Some suggest the World Cup should be relocated to countries where tourism is more accessible and welcoming.
Industry analysts warn the escalating costs and procedures could lead to a steep drop in international tourism—raising the question: is the U.S. pricing itself out of cultural exchange?
