The Nigerian world
The news as it trends. See video below.
In what many on social media have called a disturbing incident involving one of Nigeria’s popular musicians, Kwam 1, and the Abuja Airport fracas, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has now ordered a six-month suspension for Fuji legend Kwam 1 following his disruptive behavior at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
While headlines scream “blacklisted,” a more accurate term might be barred from air travel—a decisive move that underscores the seriousness of the breach.
But the shock doesn’t end there.
A pilot involved in the same incident allegedly initiated departure procedures without mandatory clearance from air traffic control.
If true, this isn’t just a lapse—it’s insubordination and a violation of international aviation safety standards.
How can a pilot fly passengers without clearance?
The question still leaves many Nigerians on social media reeling, demanding answers.
As many have echoed, this is not just a breach—it’s a shocking betrayal of public trust.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended both the pilot and co-pilot pending a full investigation.
Their names? Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, both of ValueJet Airlines.
According to reports, their reckless actions endangered ground personnel and passengers alike.
Aviation is not a playground for ego or error.
The system must be respected. And when it fails, accountability must be swift and uncompromising.
The system, in this case, failed—and accountability must follow.
