Social media is ablaze as users openly call for Kemi Badenoch’s resignation, accusing her of spreading misinformation during a recent CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria.

In the interview, Badenoch—herself a child of Nigerian parents—claimed:

“I have that citizenship by virtue of my parents, I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman,” using the quote to criticize Nigeria’s immigration laws while contrasting them with the UK’s.

In the clip, she expressed her desire for the UK to tighten immigration policies, citing her Nigerian roots as an example of how foreign nationals exploit “soft laws” to gain entry and citizenship.

However, her statement has backfired and been widely condemned as factually inaccurate.

According to Section 25(1)(c) of the Nigerian Constitution, any child born outside Nigeria is a citizen by birth if either parent is Nigerian, regardless of gender.

Legal experts and commentators insist Badenoch’s children, born to her and her Scottish husband, are fully eligible for Nigerian citizenship through her.

The backlash has reignited heated debates around gender equality, political truthfulness, and the ethical obligations of public figures—especially when speaking on global platforms like CNN.

One woman on social media wrote:

“To lie so shamelessly in an age where truth can be fact-checked instantly is a direct affront to everything we believe in.”

Others have labeled Badenoch’s conduct unbecoming of a woman “desperately trying to save Western civilization.”

Many Nigerians are demanding a public correction, while others view this as part of a broader pattern of political deflection and narrative manipulation.
