Joel Osteen has announced the passing of his mother, Dolores “Dodie” Osteen, at the age of 91.

Alongside her husband, Pastor John Osteen, Dodie co-founded Lakewood Church in Houston in 1959—launching what would eventually grow into one of America’s largest and most influential churches.

The Osteens led intimate, charismatic worship services and hosted a weekly television broadcast that reached audiences in over 100 countries.

Dodie became a living testament to faith after being miraculously healed of liver cancer in 1981—a story she boldly shared across the globe.

Following John Osteen’s death in 1999, leadership of Lakewood Church passed to their son, Joel, who stepped into the pulpit and dramatically expanded the church’s reach.

Under his direction, weekly attendance grew from 5,000 to over 50,000, while millions now tune in via television and online broadcasts.

Joel’s wife, Victoria Osteen, whom he met in 1985 while working at his mother’s jewelry store, joined him as co-pastor after their marriage in 1987.

Her influence added warmth and relatability to the ministry, connecting with a new generation of worshippers.

Even into her 90s, Dodie remained active at Lakewood, sharing testimonies, writing books, and supporting her family’s mission.

Her passing marks the end of an era—but her unwavering faith, resilience, and love leave behind a powerful legacy that continues to touch millions.
