The Nigerian World.

The news as it trends.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 18, 2025, under tight security for the continuation of his terrorism trial.

Only ten members of his team—eight lawyers and two associates—were allowed entry, raising concerns over transparency in the high-profile case.

The session focused on a no-case submission filed by Kanu’s legal team, arguing that the government failed to prove its charges after formally closing its case last month.

Justice James K. Omotosho presided over the hearing.

The outcome today was a delay in judgment: the court fixed October 10, 2025, to rule on whether Kanu will be discharged or required to open his defense.

Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, following his controversial extradition from Kenya.

He was previously arrested in 2015, granted bail in 2017, and re-detained after his bail was revoked.

The trial remains a flashpoint in Nigeria’s political discourse, with supporters calling for his release and critics demanding accountability.
