In a shocking case of domestic extremism, four men in Quebec — including two active members of the Canadian Armed Forces — have been charged in an alleged terrorist plot to seize territory and establish a breakaway anti-government militia.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the men underwent military-style training, including shooting drills, ambush tactics, survival exercises, and navigation.
Authorities say they were preparing to create a base for a “new society” and had amassed a disturbing arsenal: 83 firearms, 16 explosive devices, 11,000 rounds of ammunition, and night vision equipment.
Three of the suspects face charges of facilitating terrorist activity, while the fourth is charged with weapons and explosives offenses.
The RCMP labeled the case “ideologically motivated violent extremism,” a growing concern in Canada since the pandemic.
The suspects appeared in court in Quebec City on July 8.
The Canadian military has stated it is taking the matter “very seriously” and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
