The news as it trends
Starting in October 2025, over 8.2 million households across New York State will begin receiving inflation relief checks—a one-time payment designed to help residents manage rising living costs.
Funded by a $2 billion budget, the initiative is part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s broader plan to return a portion of increased sales tax revenue back to working families.
If you filed a 2023 New York State income tax return and weren’t claimed as a dependent, you’re automatically eligible—no application required.
All payments will be sent by paper check, not direct deposit, and distribution will continue through November.
Payment Breakdown:
Single filers & heads of household earning up to $75,000: $200
Single filers earning $75,001–$150,000: $150
Joint filers earning up to $150,000: $400
Joint filers earning $150,001–$300,000: $300
This marks New York’s first-ever inflation refund effort, and officials say it’s a direct response to the financial strain many residents are facing.
