The news as it trends

The father of David Nwamini, the young Nigerian man at the center of the UK organ trafficking scandal, has died—reportedly from heartbreak.

David was taken to the UK in 2022, at age 21, by Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu for a kidney transplant intended for the senator’s daughter.

The case led to the conviction of Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act.

Since the incident, David has remained under UK protection, with no contact with his family in Nigeria.

On August 10, 2025, David’s brother Boniface confirmed their father passed away at noon, after years of emotional distress from not seeing his son.

According to family reports, David has not reached out to his father or relatives since entering protective custody.

His absence has left a painful void, and his father’s death has reignited public sympathy and outrage over the human toll of the scandal.

The silence surrounding David’s whereabouts continues to haunt those he left behind.

According to family reports, he has not reached out to his relatives in Nigeria since entering protective custody.

All of this unfolds in the midst of deeply political power plays, prison terms, and a scandal that has devastated many families.
