A tragic explosion occurred at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial area of Kaduna South, leaving several people injured and at least one confirmed dead.

The blast, which happened around 10 a.m. on Saturday, sent shockwaves through nearby communities, causing widespread panic.

Emergency responders rushed the injured to local hospitals, while military personnel sealed off the area to investigate the cause.

DICON has yet to release an official statement.

The incident has sparked concern over safety protocols at government-owned industrial facilities.

Residents in Kaduna South and Chikun remain on edge as authorities work to determine what triggered the explosion and whether further risks remain.

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) is Nigeria’s state-run defense manufacturer, operated by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

It produces military weapons and ammunition, including licensed copies of rifles, pistols, submachine guns, and rocket launchers such as the AK-47, FN FAL, and RPG-7.

DICON also manufactures tactical gear, bulletproof vests, helmets, uniforms, and protective equipment, through its Special Equipment Division.

The corporation plays a vital role in supporting Nigeria’s defense infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.
