The news as it trends

In the early hours of Sunday, operatives of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, allegedly acting on intelligence about cybercrime activity at a party held in the amusement section of the complex.

The raid, led by an officer identified as “Olapade,” resulted in the arrest of 93 youths, seizure of 18 vehicles, and confiscation of mobile devices.

Eyewitnesses described the operation as chaotic and violent, with EFCC operatives firing shots and threatening attendees.

Guests at the private “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” event sustained injuries while fleeing the scene.

The library’s management, led by Mr. Vitalis Ortese, condemned the raid as unlawful, citing the absence of a warrant and lack of prior notice to police officers stationed at the venue.

Ortese labeled the action a “Gestapo-style invasion” and a violation of both individual rights and the library’s corporate dignity.

The management is demanding a formal apology and has threatened legal action if the EFCC fails to respond appropriately.
