Ed Martin, a senior official at the U.S. Justice Department currently overseeing its operations, has encountered considerable backlash due to his unexpected appearances at events involving New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Most notably, he was recently spotted—allegedly uninvited—outside James’ home in Brooklyn, where he was photographed near her property.
This incident has drawn widespread criticism as inappropriate and politically charged, especially since no formal charges have been filed against James.
Letitia James, elected by New Yorkers, is presently serving a four-year term from January 2023 to January 2027.
Martin, who was appointed by President Trump, is leading an investigation into James that many view as retaliatory, following her successful civil fraud case against Trump and his organization.
His presence, accompanied by a colleague and a photographer from the New York Post, has raised concerns about selective media involvement and the impartiality of the investigation.
Critics have described Martin’s actions as political theater rather than authentic prosecutorial conduct.
James was legally obligated to pursue the civil fraud case against Donald Trump, which culminated in a guilty verdict.
Regardless of the court outcome, the ongoing investigation into Letitia James by Martin appears highly irregular—allegedly resembling a political counteroffensive more than an unbiased legal inquiry.
Since the probe began, Martin has taken several unconventional and controversial steps.
He reportedly sent James a letter demanding her resignation, made a public appearance on Fox News to announce a sweeping investigation, and has allegedly shown up at multiple public events where James was scheduled to appear.
These moves have raised serious concerns among legal experts, who warn that such tactics could jeopardize the integrity and credibility of any future indictment.
James’ attorney, Abbe Lowell, has publicly condemned Martin’s conduct, branding it unethical and politically motivated.
