The Ebonyi State Government has ordered the urgent evacuation of over 800 students from Pentagon Lodge, a private hostel near Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo.

The decision followed visible structural failures, with one wing showing signs of imminent collapse.

Governor Francis Nwifuru expressed deep concern and launched a probe into the incident, attributing it to poor construction and regulatory lapses.

Officials acted swiftly after student complaints and a whistleblower tip alerted authorities on July 25.

By noon on July 26, relocation efforts were complete—with no injuries reported. Alternative housing was arranged by the university.
