In a chilling case that has shocked the Dominican Republic, 33-year-old Juan Jose Guerrero Quezada was arrested for the brutal murder of his sister, Mildred Estefania Guerrero Quezada, 35, in the town of Mao, Valverde province.

Authorities say Juan visited Mildred’s home on August 24, 2025, where a heated argument escalated into a fatal knife attack.

He inflicted multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and abdomen before dismembering her body in a grotesque attempt to hide the evidence.

What followed was even more disturbing: Juan placed parts of Mildred’s remains into buckets and a cooking pot, then tried to cremate them using the oven in her kitchen.

After stealing her phone, apartment keys, and even her pet parakeets—which he later sold—Juan returned to the scene hours later, pretending to discover her body.

His dramatic screams alerted neighbors, who called emergency services.

Investigators quickly uncovered inconsistencies in his story.

Juan later confessed and is now being held in preventive detention at the Mao Correctional Center.

The crime has reignited public outrage and calls for stronger mental health and criminal justice interventions to prevent such tragedies.
