In the USA.
The news as it trends.
In a shocking twist at the U.S. Department of State — one of its kind in modern history — artificial intelligence has crossed a chilling new line: impersonating Secretary of State Marco Rubio and sending messages to federal officials and foreign leaders.
As one user reacted on social media, “Let’s just be glad no money was requested…”
But the breach itself is deeply alarming.
An unidentified individual used AI-generated voice technology to mimic Rubio’s voice with stunning accuracy.
The impersonator contacted at least three foreign ministers, a U.S. senator, and a governor using Signal, text, and voicemail.
The fake account, “Marco.Rubio@state.gov,” was part of a calculated attempt to deceive high-level officials.
Authorities believe the goal was to gain access to classified systems or sensitive information.
It is still unclear what type of messages or requests the AI impersonator was sending.
The FBI and State Department are now investigating what cybersecurity experts are calling a terrifying example of AI-driven “reality hijacking.”
If caught, the impersonator could face federal charges for impersonating a government official and attempting to defraud or access protected information.
