The news as it trends.
Some Nigerians may now be facing legal trouble after a fake letter circulated on social media, falsely claiming Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, had rejected an appointment from President Bola Tinubu.
The letter, said to be personally signed by Babangida, claimed he declined the role of Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture for “personal reasons.”
However, Babangida’s media team and presidential aides quickly debunked the letter, confirming it was fabricated.
Not only has Babangida accepted the appointment, but he also expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
The forged document, complete with a fake signature and misleading contact details, is now under official investigation.
Authorities warn that individuals responsible for spreading such misinformation may face criminal charges, reminding the public that online rumors can carry real-world consequences.
