The News as it trends.

Senegal has officially canceled the ambitious Akon City project, a $6 billion futuristic smart city proposed by singer Akon in 2018.

Meant to be a “real-life Wakanda,” the city was to feature solar power, luxury housing, and its own cryptocurrency, Akoin.

But after years of delays, missed payments, and lack of progress, the government reclaimed most of the land in Mbodiene.

Only a youth center and basketball court were ever built.

Officials now plan a scaled-down $1.2 billion resort, prioritizing tourism over tech utopia.

Akon retains a small portion of land for a more “realistic” project.

The collapse marks a major shift from visionary urban development to practical infrastructure
