Democratic congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh was violently slammed to the ground by a federal ICE officer during a peaceful protest outside an immigration facility in Broadview, Illinois.
The incident occurred on September 19, 2025, as Abughazaleh and others exercised their First Amendment right to protest deportations.
Video footage shows an ICE agent forcefully throwing her to the pavement after demonstrators were tear-gassed and hit with pepper balls.
Abughazaleh, who is running in Illinois’s 9th district, described the act as a “violent abuse of power.”
The Department of Homeland Security defended the operation, citing ongoing enforcement efforts.
The event has sparked outrage among civil rights advocates and raised concerns about excessive force against nonviolent protesters and political candidates.
