In the USA

The news as it trends.

Unlike countries often labeled “banana republics,” where presidents can override judicial systems and destabilize institutions to cling to power, the United States operates under a constitutional framework that limits executive overreach.

Even the president cannot unilaterally determine the outcome of a crime — only the courts can.

And even then, every accused individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

That’s why Donald Trump’s recent move to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has triggered a serious legal and constitutional battle.

Citing allegations of mortgage fraud, Trump’s action shattered historical precedent.

No sitting U.S. president has ever removed a Fed board member.

The Federal Reserve was intentionally designed to be politically independent, serving as a safeguard against partisan manipulation of monetary policy.

It’s worth noting that Cook had not been formally charged or adjudicated.

Her removal raises urgent questions:

Can a president legally fire a Fed governor “for cause,” and who defines that cause?

The lack of due process suggests this could escalate into a courtroom showdown over executive authority, overreach, and central bank independence.

This isn’t just about one official — it’s about the integrity of America’s financial governance.

If unchecked, it risks turning monetary policy into a partisan weapon.
