The news as it trends.
In the early hours of Sunday, August 10, a 25-year-old man was seriously injured at Hoboken PATH station after attempting to retrieve his dropped cell phone from the tracks.
According to Port Authority police, he came into contact with the electrified third rail and was found unconscious at 1:55 a.m.
Emergency crews shut off power, rescued him, and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He remains in serious but stable condition.
Authorities Warn:
No phone is worth risking your life. If your phone falls onto the tracks, do not attempt to retrieve it yourself.
Call an MTA transit worker immediately. Stay alert and safe around train platforms—your life matters more than any device.
