Around the world.

The news as it trends.

Sergei Torop, a former Russian traffic officer turned cult leader known as Jesus of Siberia, has been jailed for abusing his followers.

After founding the Church of the Last Testament in 1991, Torop claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus and amassed thousands of devotees in remote Siberian settlements.

Authorities found he used psychological manipulation to exploit members for labor and money, causing severe mental and physical harm.

Six followers suffered serious health issues, while 16 endured emotional trauma.

In a dramatic 2020 helicopter raid, Torop and two associates were arrested.

This year, 2025, they were sentenced to 12 and 11 years in prison, sparking renewed scrutiny of spiritual cults in Russia.
