The news as it trends.
Perhaps in the years to come, many in the sports world may have to study how one moment of controversy can lead to the termination of a beloved figure’s contract, with livelihood up in the air.
The story trending across social media and news outlets today is that NFL Hall of Famer and media personality Shannon Sharpe has been let go from ESPN — just weeks after settling a $50 million lawsuit filed by OnlyFans model Gabriella Zuniga, who accused him of rape and abuse.
The scandal first erupted in April 2025, leading Sharpe to step away from his role on First Take.
ESPN initially supported his leave but has now officially terminated his contract.
Sharpe, 57, strongly denied the accusations, calling the lawsuit a “shakedown.” It was dismissed with prejudice following a confidential settlement.
Despite the fallout, his media brand remains strong. Club Shay Shay and Nightcap are still thriving, and he’s reportedly in talks for a $100 million podcast deal, which may surpass his ESPN earnings.
The controversy has sparked nationwide debate about fame, accountability, and the impact of personal conduct on professional careers.
