A group of Nigerian men were reportedly stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR) after being lured by a Chinese-owned mining company that promised them jobs.

Upon arrival in September 2024, they spent four months stuck in the capital before being arrested by local authorities and later moved to a remote bush area.

Their passports were confiscated, leaving them unable to legally travel or return home.

The situation came to light through a viral video, prompting urgent action.

The Tinubu administration, via the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has confirmed contact with the men and is now arranging transportation to Bangui, the capital.

Their passports have been recovered, and repatriation efforts are underway.

The incident has sparked questions about international labor exploitation, the role of foreign companies, and the need for tighter oversight of overseas recruitment schemes.
