Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the “Produce for Lagos” programme, backed by a robust ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, aimed at enhancing food security and transforming agriculture across Lagos and beyond.
This initiative targets essential staples such as rice, cassava, maize, tomatoes, and fish, reducing reliance on imported food and stabilizing prices.
It will be executed through the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO) in partnership with key logistics and trading entities.
The fund supports credit for farmers, bulk traders, aggregators, and food producers—creating jobs and reliable food access for Lagos’ growing population of over 20 million.
According to Dr. Tunde Ilesanmi, a food systems consultant, “This isn’t just a political gesture; it’s a strategic step toward localized resilience.
With proper implementation, Lagos can lead Nigeria into agricultural self-sufficiency.”
This program is a bold signal that food security is being treated as national security.
