Candace Owens is facing serious legal trouble after French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron filed a defamation lawsuit in Delaware Superior Court, accusing her of a “relentless smear campaign.”
The complaint is 219 pages long and focuses on repeated false claims Owens made—that Brigitte was born a man—shared on social media and through an eight-part podcast.
Even some of Owens’ own supporters have criticized her for promoting conspiracy theories.
She previously stated that President Trump personally asked her to stop spreading the Macron rumor, but she allegedly refused.
The Macrons are seeking both compensatory damages, for emotional and reputational harm, and punitive damages, to penalize what they describe as reckless behavior.
Their lawsuit describes global humiliation and a deep sense of public insecurity.
Owens, who is a mother of four children and worth an estimated $5 million, could face serious financial penalties if found liable.
The Macrons, whose combined net worth is between $50 million and $60 million, say the case is about standing up to defamation and restoring dignity.
