Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and former First Lady Grace Mugabe, has been arrested following a violent incident at a mining site in Mazowe, near the Mugabe family estate.
Born on May 26, 1997, Chatunga is 27 years old and is the third and youngest of Robert Mugabe’s four children.
He has two older siblings — Robert Jr. and Bona Mugabe — from his father’s second marriage to Grace, and a half-brother, Michael, who died in childhood from Mugabe’s first marriage.
Chatunga, known for his lavish lifestyle, reportedly led a convoy of armed men, some carrying AK-47s, to confront workers at Ultimate Mining on June 25, 2025.
The group accused the workers of allowing illegal gold panners to trespass onto the Mugabe estate.
Witnesses say Chatunga personally assaulted a security guard, triggering a violent brawl that left several workers seriously injured.
A firearm was reportedly discharged during the chaos.
He was arrested and held in Concession Magistrates Court holding cells, where he faces charges of assault, incitement to violence, and possible unlawful possession or discharge of a firearm.
The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed scrutiny of the Mugabe family’s influence and use of force in land disputes.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional charges will be filed.
