A Delta Air Lines flight from New York to San Francisco was unexpectedly diverted when a passenger went into labor mid-flight.
Flight 668 declared a medical emergency about an hour after takeoff and landed safely at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio.
Paramedics were waiting at the gate, and the woman was assisted by another passenger until help arrived.
A witness described the scene as “pretty nuts,” noting the packed flight and the crew’s swift response.
The baby was not delivered onboard, but the incident delayed the flight by about two hours.
Delta confirmed 135 passengers and six crew members were onboard, and emphasized that passenger safety remains their top priority.
