The news as it trends.
Applications are now open for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship 2026, offering a life-changing opportunity for exceptional students from West Africa, including Nigeria, to pursue fully funded postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.
This globally respected award, established in 1903, is one of the oldest and most competitive international scholarship programs in the world.
Funded by the Rhodes Trust, the scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, visa costs, round-trip flights, and health insurance — making it one of the most generous academic awards available.
Scholars also gain access to a lifelong global network of Rhodes alumni, leadership development opportunities, and mentorship.
To apply for the Rhodes Scholarship from West Africa, you must meet the following requirements:
Citizenship: You must be a citizen of a West African country, including Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, or Liberia.

Education: You must have completed (or be completing) an undergraduate degree with a First Class or strong Upper Second-Class Honours (typically above 70%).
Graduation Timeline: If you’re still in school, you must complete your degree by July 2026.

Rhodes Scholars can pursue a wide range of full-time postgraduate programs at Oxford, including Master’s degrees (MSc, MPhil) and Doctoral degrees (DPhil/PhD) across disciplines such as law, public policy, health sciences, engineering, humanities, and more.
